Best Beauty Schools: our researched selection

By canton

Results are listed alphabetically. There is no price ranking: prices in different currencies and bases (per day, per course, per year, per instalment) are not comparable. Courses for teens and children appear only when you choose a youth audience. Online programs are never counted as physically located in a state or city. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change recognition status, verification or order.

About beauty training and licensing in Switzerland

How beauty training is organised

The state route to a cosmetician qualification in Switzerland is the three-year Kosmetiker/in EFZ apprenticeship (four days a week in a salon, one day at a cantonal vocational school, 16 days of inter-company courses). Private schools such as Maria Schweizer AG (Dübendorf), ASEPIB (French-speaking Switzerland) and BLEND (Bern, make-up) run shorter diploma courses; their diplomas are school diplomas, not the EFZ, although Maria Schweizer notes that graduates can later pursue the EFZ through the adult route under Art. 32 BBV.

Qualification structures

Names and levels are local to Switzerland. Similar names in other countries are not interchangeable.

Kosmetiker/in EFZ
Three-year apprenticeship ending in the Eidgenössisches Fähigkeitszeugnis; entry requires completed compulsory schooling. Source
Diplom Kosmetiker/-in (Maria Schweizer AG)
School diploma after 6 months full time or 12 months part time (920 lessons) in Dübendorf; the school states a later route to the EFZ via the SFK under Art. 32 BBV. Source
Esthétique de base (ASEPIB)
Six-month morning course (at least 300 course hours) leading to an ASEPIB association diploma; the association's schools hold the eduQua quality label according to its website. Source

Languages and licensing

Teaching languages. Teaching follows the regional language: German in Zürich and Bern (Maria Schweizer AG states good German skills as an entry requirement) and French in the ASEPIB schools in Fribourg, Vaud and Valais. No English-taught course was verified in this pass; the BLEND course page is written in German and does not state its teaching language.

Licensing and regulation. The Maria Schweizer AG website states that since 1 June 2024 treatments with non-ionising radiation and sound (radiofrequency, ultrasound, laser, IPL, infrared, cryolipolysis) may only be performed with a Sachkundenachweis (V-NISSG). No general licence to open a beauty salon was established in this research pass. Source
